New and Improved #Introduction just for Beige.Party!

Hey there! I’m Petrichord (she/her). Please don’t call me Petri—it makes me think of the biology class I failed in college. I signed up for Mastodon back in 2018 but only recently started using it this past year, and then my instance (octodon.social) announced its shutdown so I've decided to migrate here to make new friends! Better late than never, right?

By day, I’m a marketer from New Jersey. By night, I’m a do-everything-else-to-stop-the-encroaching-feeling-of-doom-er. My distraction of choice is #Acting. I have a BFA in #MusicalTheatre performance, and I spend my free time working professionally and with community theatre companies. I sing, dance, act, choreograph, direct, and design costumes. I also run a shadowcast of The #RockyHorror Picture Show and have been a performer with the cast for over a decade.

Other things I’ll probably post about include #Burlesque, #Cosplay, #VideoGames (especially #Horror, #Mystery, and #RPGs), #TabletopGaming & #DnD (I used to be a DnD and Tabletop Gaming Streamer for a pretty big company though I don't do that anymore), #BoardGames, and #Books.

Fun facts: I’m an award-winning writer, but executive dysfunction usually wins, so long posts are rare victories. I’m #ActuallyAutistic and have #ADHD, which means I’m very socially awkward, so chaos comes naturally.

I love Porgs, glitter, and indie perfumes. Eat the rich. Let’s be friends. 😘

#Antumbra chapter 1 page 3 update:
Ended up redoing 2 panels, because the reader (you) would end up not having a clue what was happening!

Today I learned two things:
1. when a character is facing one way, keep them facing that way, unless something majorly important needs to be conveyed (change the focus to another character for example),
2. avoid making 180 degrees view turn, as that disorients
3 (bonus). be ready to accept that a page can be completely different from what I had in mind and should end up requiring a redoing.... 😭

Edit: man, making comics is a tough thing....

#Antumbra chapter 1 page 3 update:
Gradually pushing forward. Panels have been decided (I just didn't have the capacity to even do another line last night XD).

It might need some minor changes/tweaks in the panels of the man walking down the corridor, but not sure yet.

After this page Antumbra officially begins in its current timeline with it's first satiating chapter! :D

Do you need something to take your mind off the #USElection? Why not read a mystery novel set in the Middle Ages? I have two series: the Matthew Cordwainer medieval mysteries and the Gavin Rownt medieval mysteries. Guaranteed to keep you distracted!

If anyone has any recommendations for either East Asian or Southeast Asian mystery novels that have been translated into English (see end for exclusions), please feel free to throw them at me. It's just been an area of interest for the past year or so, and I've really liked most of the books I've read thus far.

Excludes:

  • Yokomizo Seishi (because I've read everything that's been published in English)
  • Ayatsuji Yukito (same as above)
  • Takagi Akimitsu (he was fun)
  • Qiu Xiaolong (because he pissed me off with the one book I did read for the sudden last minute inclusion of "Ah! Multiple personalities!" as the solution)
  • Togawa Masako (on my list already)
  • Shimada Soji (same as above)
  • Yamada Futaro (also same)

(Perhaps next year, I can venture into another region. So if you know of something you really like that isn't geographically relevant, then feel free to add it.)

Interesting, the bear occupied property here may be owned by a (former?) JPL scientist. Any #JPL people with resources to see if this person is still alive or not (if we give you a name?) House unoccupied since 2019, strange smells from the house, bear moved in, car immobilized and abandoned in the driveway... city can't contact the owner, LA Times was unable to find the person, etc. 👀

Can hand over the name in a DM, thanks to an intrepid investigator here...

Possible owner was a member of the JPL's Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) project, based on some searching.

20 books that have had an impact on who you are. one book a day, 20 dates. no explanation, no reviews, just book covers (with alt text).

Day 6/20: One for All – Lillie Lainoff

loved the female friendship and fight scenes. completely re-defined how i view chronic illness in fiction, and has since become one of my favorite comfort reads.

(so i guess we’re giving up on the “no explanation, no reviews” thing 🙈 also, inconsistent posts because life is a little insane right now)
