I've only been #hiking on Wind Mountain a couple times, as i usually just pass it on the way to Dog Mountain. Famous for its pits arranged in the talus field that covers the top of the mountain. Supposedly the locals for at least, roughly, a thousand years used them so young warriors would get some guidance for what they should be doing with their lives, something probably most people these days also need.

The amazing thing about hiking in Yosemite (and indeed, being immersed in any nature experience) is that everything you thought was important suddenly feels meaningless.

The TV show you couldn't wait to watch, all the games on your backlog, all the little projects around the house, the dozens of unfinished things and anxieties intruding on your thoughts.

It all melts away, leaving you with nothing but a clear mind and a strong sense of gratitude for the beauty around you.

Franz Graf posts videos of hiking and cycling, especially in the hills and mountains of Germany:

These are peanut butter energy balls, a staple snack when I'm out on the trail. I always get excited making them, because it means a #hiking trip is imminent!

Here's how to make them, the proper metric way..

135 grams rolled oats
190 grams natural peanut butter (e.g. no added sugar)
75 grams raisins
30 grams honey
dash of cinnamon (don't overdo it!)

Combine all the ingredients in a big bowl, roll into bite-sized balls, and refrigerate for about an hour.

Having just migrated from @snyssen@hostux.social, I think it is time for an #introduction !

I'm Simon (He/Him) and I am mainly into
#selfhosting and #foss #coding, though I also like #videogames, #ttrpg, #cycling and #hiking... And #bears and #cats! (my current profile pic is my cat, Korra) I am also a #privacy advocate and I try to do my part in fighting #climatechange, #racism and #genderequality

I have never been very active on social networks, but I would like to start documenting my
#selfhostingjourney a bit more, and this seems like a good place to do it. Until I do, you can already find its #iac on my github account.

I am planning on creating a second account for more personal stuff, but I still have to find a good name...

Hello Ottawa!

Here's a little bit about me:

Originally from New Brunswick, I've lived in many places across Canada including Vancouver, Winnipeg, and now, Ottawa.

For decades, I've been passionate about #community building both online and offline. My volunteer past includes coordinating safety initiatives, lobbying for recreational facilities, and advocating for greenspace. I've done a lot but I really don't like bragging. I value experience over fame.

I work in emergency services but I also run a web services business, a venture fueled by my love for the Internet and seeing how people use the #web

Offline, I enjoy #biking #hiking exploring #art and #volunteering I'm grateful for the available green spaces in Ottawa and Gatineau, and that I live near a river. ❤️
