#Disenshittify, NOW!! We have a chance: #IP!!

"…thanks to internal memos published during last year's #monopoly trial against #Google, we know what they did. They made #search worse. They reduced the system's accuracy it so you had to search twice or more to get to the answer, thus doubling the number of queries, and doubling the number of #ads.

Meanwhile, Google entered into a secret, illegal collusive arrangement with #Facebook, codenamed #JediBlue, to rig the ad market, fixing prices so advertisers paid more and publishers got less." @pluralistic

This is wrong on so many points D:

In a move that has left drivers both frustrated and bewildered, Stellantis has introduced full-screen pop-up ads on its infotainment systems. Specifically, Jeep owners have reported being bombarded with advertisements for Mopar’s extended warranty service. The kicker? These ads appear every time the vehicle comes to a stop.

I used to be quite active on Reddit. I'm one of the moderators of a lefty group there. However, I haven't been on it recently.

But I went on today using Firefox. I discovered that it's no longer very functional with the Firefox setup I have (which includes various script blocking addons).

So, I went on using Chromium (an open source version of Chrome). This led me to various YouTube links. Generally, when I use YouTube, I filter it through FreeTube. But, that was tricky in this instance, so I just watched stuff on YouTube.

There's a shocking amount of ads there. And they're all kind of creepily within what would be products for my demographic (IE, they're targeted toward me). Yeesh. And no, I was not inspired to buy anything.

According to Statista, advertisers spent $185.35 billion to influence your search results in 2022. By 2028, they'll spend $261 billion💰

At Kagi, we believe your attention and data shouldn't be for sale - that's why we work directly for users, not advertisers or any third parties.

Pre web 1.0 you didn't need personal data on your products users. Maybe you sent out a mailer but unlikely. An items sold well. Some #ads were even good. back in the #TV #Radio #Newspaper days unlike the filth of today.

So if a company says they need your personal data to sell to you its a lie. It was a lie back then an it is now.

Get off your buts and make actual good ads.

"Looking at you #google #Mozilla #meta etc"

This in truth should all be regulated.

I hate #ads on the web. I just discovered this plugin called "AdNauseam", which is built on top of uBlock Origin. Instead of just silently hiding the #ad, it clicks it first. This means that you stuff the algorithm full of noise about you. It is harder to build a profile on you because you appear to click EVERYTHING. It also, obviously, drives up costs for advertisers.

adnauseam.io/

It's been around since at least 2021.
