I've delved into the rabbit hole of privacy-preserving home monitoring equipment so might as well write it down for whoever plans to be the same thing.

My original intent was to have an offline clock that provides humidity and temperature; however, one thing led to another - wine cellar, fermentation chamber, or wardrobe where you keep your precious Kashmir.

There is an open-sourced project:

And supported device list like this where you can buy from Amazon for cheap:

You don't even need to audit the manufacturer's app as you won't be needing them.

I bought this digital room six months ago. I wanted to check to see if my Nest thermostat was accurate (it is).

Anyway, I like having it in my room because I can quickly glance at it to see the temp and humidity.

After six months, the battery needs to be replaced. I'm kind of surprised that it only lasts six months. I think it should be 2 years at the minimum. It takes a lithium CR2032 . That thing must really drain it.

From the informational sign, you learn that there are thermophiles, #microorganisms, that thrive in heat. The different colors are based on the degree of heat and that is what is referred to as the living #thermometer. (See Alt Text for more)

I bought this room two months ago. It works great, but the already died! It just shows you how long this thing has been sitting in the Amazon warehouse. Plus, it wouldn't surprise me if the battery that came with it was a hunk of junk in the first place (2032 lithium 3 volt battery--or, least, it's *supposed* to be).

Luckily, I have extra since I have several devices that use this battery type.
