Act of Faith Directed by Dan Bree, 2002, 6 mins, #documentary
Synopsis - In the history of Islam, love between men is a centuries-old phenomenon. Yet Koranic tradition forbids choosing a mate of the same sex. Kyriell, an Imam's son, struggled with reconciling his love for men with his love for Islam and eventually came back to the faith. Pakistani-born Arslan saw no compromise in Islam and discarded his religion, while Iftekar, a Muslim community leader, believes that Islam needs to be brought into the twenty-first century. Through the words of these men, the struggle of gay Muslims is revealed.

Thoughts - Short, quick, but captures interesting people discussing both their opinions and life experiences.

Two-Spirit People (1991), 23 mins, #documentary

This breezed by pretty quickly. It surprisingly holds up. Maybe not necessarily in terminology, but the pacing and flow of dialogue was impressive and beats out newer short form documentaries I've seen. Its also an incredible experience seeing people of the time period describing their histories, cultures and personal experiences. I am going to give the film another watch over and record all of the names mentioned to see if I can find more about them, they all seemed interesting.

Also they had clips of a 1970s film called Little Big Man and it had a twospirit character. That was allowed? 😲 Honestly I'm a bit interested and I usually am not interested in westerns.

letterboxd.comTwo-Spirit People (1991)An overview of historical and contemporary Native American concepts of gender, sexuality and sexual orientation. This documentary explores the "berdache" tradition in Native American culture, in which individuals who embody feminine and masculine qualities act as a conduit between the physical and spiritual world, and because of this are placed in positions of power within the community.

As We Hold Hands (2022), DIRECTED BY Clementine Narcisse, 8 mins

Synopsis - Over the course of one day, a model falls in love with a photographer as they venture around New York City together.

My thoughts - Short and bittersweet. Not the best film I've ever seen, yet its charming and I like the random conversations they have that fit perfectly into slowly building up an attraction.

"Ghost of a Broken Heart" is a creepy, perhaps a little cheesy, short film I did in 2017, set in a future where online adverts stalk you offline. You walking down a street, cameras recognize your face, and billboards flash targeted ads at you. It's a horror since one of these ads sells means to a bloody revenge after a breakup...
