Blake Patterson<p>This is a great, short video explaining "whatever happened to soundcards?" </p><p>(Spoiler: it was Windows Vista that ended them, but it's an interesting story.) </p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5kGXI8vUKg" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=D5kGXI8vUK</span><span class="invisible">g</span></a></p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/PC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PC</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/soundcards" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>soundcards</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/audio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>audio</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/PCaudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PCaudio</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/PCgaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PCgaming</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Windows</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/gamers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamers</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/hardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hardware</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/tech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tech</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/techhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>techhistory</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/SoundBlaster" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SoundBlaster</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/CreativeLabs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CreativeLabs</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/WindowsVista" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WindowsVista</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/video" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>video</span></a></p>
Anomie Train<p>I remember the early days of home computers, and like everybody, I had a Soundblaster (or compatible) soundcard in mine, and I was looking for one of those <a href="https://vocalounge.cafe/tags/Soundblaster" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Soundblaster</span></a> midi cable adapter so I could hook up my keyboard. So I went to <a href="https://vocalounge.cafe/tags/GuitarCenter" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GuitarCenter</span></a> and ask one of the salespersons if they had one. And he smugly tells me they don&#39;t carry them because &quot;they&#39;re for toys.&quot;</p><p>I just said, &quot;Ok, thanks.&quot; But I was thinking, &quot;Go f*** yourself. Who the f*** are you? You work at Guitar Center!&quot;</p>
