So as some of y'all recall, I had been gushing about #SkyChildrenOfTheLight this past weekend.
I'm nearing my second year-mark in playing this coming October, so I'd thought I'd finally get around to sharing some of my own media on here concerning it.
It's a cute game, not without its issues, but really scratches the itch for amazing flight mechanics. (This coming from someone terrified of heights IRL, so you know it's gotta be good for me of all people to enjoy.)
I also got switched from my seat during a random server error, but I lucked out and returned to a floor seat near the very end of the concert.
But all in all, neat to see ThatGameCompany hit their goals this weekend. I'm excited to see where they go with all of this. The festival tech is neat... still has a LOT of work to go through, especially for accessibility for it and the game in general, but seeing how it fleshes out from this point may change the course of MMOs from here on.
My one major gripe, though, as with a number of other games that use similar models... FOMO is overhanging with this one, because the majority of things you can actually get that aren't default are time-limited, whether event exclusive or season pass content that takes its sweet time getting back around to be purchased. It's a terrifying hurdle for new players thinking about getting invested or wanting to customize their avatar the way they'd like to.
I've made it a personal mission to keep pushing for a more reasonable system than what they've stuck to for so long... with the way the game has grown and will grow once it becomes available on Steam, the current system won't work for a large player base... it barely worked for a small/modest one after a certain point of introducing more spirits with cosmetics and props each season/event.
As it stands now, in order for players to get a chance at past seasonal items, we have to wait every 2 weeks for one traveling spirit (chosen at random) to appear for a 4-day window. (Thursday-Sunday).
Past spirits are only eligible to be put into the pool once the season that came after theirs is over with.
But there are so many spirits now, some folks have waited YEARS for a certain spirit with items they wanted to come back.
It's definitely caused some controversy...
However, I will hand it to them, they recently started group spirit visits per new season/annual event this year, so it has helped just a little bit... for now.
It concerns me that if they stick to this as the only solution for too long, this one will also get out of hand.
I honestly think at the point of growth their headed to, it's time for a more permanent IGC shop setting for those types of season-tied cosmetics that have hit a certain age threshold.
I hope it's something they consider.
Anyways, I'm done with spilling my guts on this game for now.
I'll try to make a better effort to share stuff I do in-game in the future. Honestly, I've only been doing dailies and IGC farming for now, but there are some funny moments I come across from time to time I neglect to highlight.
